BACK GROUND;
Ssenfuma Robert had to fend for his younger
siblings to make sure that they meet the basic needs of
life after losing both
their parents in 2004. He admitted other children to
the group, Kumbaya Children’s Choir, which was started with a main aim
of raising funds for orphaned children. The funds that were raised were
used for the children’s school fees, scholastic materials, feeding and clothing.
The children’s choir started moving out to other places admitting children that
bore the same brunt to join the struggle. In 2008, the choir grew bigger and
the pressure for more funds rose immensely. Later on, Kumbaya Foundation was established. The word KUMBAYA originated from a worship song known as come by here my lord come by here. But many people here in Uganda sing this
song as,
“Kumbaya My Lord Kumbaya…” Kumbaya
Foundation is a registered private not for profit organization incorporated in
December 2010 under the laws of the Republic of Uganda. It was founded by
Robert Ssenfuma and who is its current Chairman
